Barberton police have charged Thomas J. Harris of Second Street Southwest with illegal manufacture of drugs following a search of his residence Saturday night.

According to Barberton Police Public Information Officer Marty Everhart, officers investigating drug activity “conducted a knock and talk with residents of the address and were granted consent by the occupants to search.”

Beginning in the garage, officers founds components of a methamphetamine lab. More components and methamphetamine itself were found in a bedroom next to a child’s room, Everhart said.

Harris is being held in Barberton City Jail. Because children were in the home, the charge is a first-degree felony.

The Summit County Drug Unit was brought in to clean out the lab.
