Cavs parade 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cleveland; route to circle Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field

Up to 500,000 people are expected to participate in Cleveland’s parade Wednesday to honor the Cavaliers and the team’s first NBA title.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on East Sixth Street near Huron Road near the Quicken Loans Arena, city officials said.

The parade, which will have more than 60 units including the Ohio State University marching band, will move through downtown Cleveland to Mall B off Lakeside Avenue where a 60-minute ceremony is planned at 1:30 p.m.

The parade will go north to Huron Road, west to Ontario Street, south to Carnegie to East Ninth Street.

In effect, the parade will circle Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive Field.

It will go north on East Ninth Street and then west on Lakeside Avenue to the mall on St. Clair Avenue.

A number of streets near the parade route will be closed to traffic. Parking will also be banned in many areas.

RTA is offering a $5 all-day pass to ride the rapid transits into downtown.

There will be extensive live television coverage with Sports Time Ohio and local television stations, the city said.

Cleveland warned that the event is family friendly and the consumption of alcohol is prohibited.

Temperatures are expected in the 70s and it will be sunny.

Playhouse Square announced it will postpone Wednesday’s performances of Phantom of the Opera and Steel Magnolias. Phantom has been rescheduled for 8 p.m. Monday; ticket holders for Steel Magnolias should call 216-664-6050 to exchange their tickets for another performance.

The city of Akron and the LeBron James Family Foundation will hold an Akron celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron.
