Your drinking buddy did what?
The Wandering Aesthetics theater company hosts open-mic community events called Full Circle Storytelling.
If you have a story to tell on the subject of “Drinkin’ Buddies” (and who doesn’t?), stop by Aqueduct Brewing, 529 Grant St., Akron, between 6 and 8 p.m. to share your tale or just listen. It’s free; registration is encouraged (especially for storytellers), but not required. To register or for information, email benjamin@akronist.com or visit www.watheatre.com/fullcircle.
‘Compton’ biopic now on DVD
The N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, arrives on DVD/Blu-ray today. Beacon Journal pop music writer Malcolm X Abram says the film hits “all the major well-known biographical bits (Enter the FBI! Exit Ice Cube! Enter Suge Knight! Exit Dr. Dre! No Vaseline!), and hammers hard on N.W.A.’s legacy as First Amendment champions and hip-hop innovators. But … the film also completely ignores the music’s rampant misogyny and that surrounding controversy.”
It’s also become a focal point for the argument that the Oscars lack diversity; it earned only a screenplay nomination. Check it out for yourself and see what you think.
